Why does my tax preparer ask if I paid any contractors $600 or more?

This is a key diligence question from the IRS, asked directly on your business tax return (Schedule C). We are required to ask if you made payments that would necessitate filing Form(s) 1099 and if you have done so. Asking this ensures your return is accurate and compliant, helping you avoid potential penalties for failing to report payments.
